I’ll never forget the butterflies as I waited for Mum to come upstairs-Would it be the slipper or the hairbrush? Like this young lady we had to wait,sitting, on the bed. Then Mum would finally come in,close the door behind her and beckon us to stand whilst she took our place sitting down. Then followed a lecture and the order to either “raise your nightie” or “drop your pyjamas”, before being firmly pulled over her knee.
